In my work as a therapist, I’ve found that having a strong sense of community—along with outlets for creativity, play, time outdoors, movement, and service—are all essential ingredients for genuine well-being. But let’s be honest: making friends and maintaining hobbies as an adult can be hard.

Sometimes all you need is a shared interest to bond over and a little external nudge to actually show up. So, below you’ll find a handful of warm, welcoming clubs and communities in and around Portland, ME.   • MoreWomenSurf -  Co-creates equitable opportunities for at-risk communities in Maine to access board sports in and out of the water.

  • Portland Bike Party - "The Hottest Club in Portland”

  • Runaways Run Club - Maine’s largest, free run collective, offering Sun 9am, Tues 6am, Wed 6pm runs for all levels!

  • Climbers of Color Maine - Fostering community through climbing for Maine-based people of color.

  • Kindling Collective - A queer-centered outdoor gear library and education center—for everyone! 

  • Two Maine Mermaids - Cold plunges with community.

  • Portland Craft Circle - A cozy third space to unplug & connect, make cool stuff, and meet new friends. 

  • Portland Yarn & Yap -  A space for knitters and crocheters to get together and yap! Weekly meetups at rotating breweries and bars in the Portland, Maine area.

  • Rainbow Arts Collective - Rainbow Arts Collective is a group that supports queer arts programs in Maine.
